  1. Rene,
I think your review of the book is spot on. One of the things I appreciate about the book is what it doesn’t say. Gee is likely the most careful scholar of the Book of Abraham, and much of his work has been examining bad scholarship by both critics and well meaning Latter-day Saints. I am glad Dr Gee isn’t taking us on any flights of fancy, but is careful to say when he is speculating.

I have also published on the topic of bad methodology and the Book of Abraham with the Interpreter Foundation. It is called “Scriptures with Pictures”. Feel free to add it to your reading list.

  2. Rene, I’m looking forward to reading this book. Thanks for the review. One of the things I advise my students and clients is to always read aloud what you write. Not all readers, read in their head. Some of us need to hear the written word and doing so allows the author to “hear” their errors. Yours are not huge, but avoidable.

  3. With all due respect to Mark Johnson who refers to the research of those he disagrees with as “flights of fancy,” as much as John Gee deserves respect for his careful scholarship, other well researched scholarship is not a flight of fancy. With all due respect, I submit my research for consideration, which is well documented, and not a flight of fancy, although not from Brother Johnson or Brother Gee’s paradigm. It requires one to change one’s thinking a little. When FAIRMormon takes this seriously as well, along with Brother Gee’s research, we will have a full picture.
