1 thought on ““The Book That Answers All the Questions”: Hugh Nibley and the Pearl of Great Price

  1. S. Whitlock was asked the question, “How did Hugh Nibley affect your life?” He answered that his perspective on life was influenced by Nibley’s teachings. I would agree, Nibley’s writings had the same effect on me! When I read his book, Approach To Zion, my perspective on life was very much changed. And along with myself and who knows how many hundreds or thousands of others, was Hyrum W. Smith, founder of the Franklin Planner. I was at a convention for the Utah Chamber of Commerce and he was the keynote speaker. His topic was using our talents and means to serve others. I recognized that he was using phrases and ideas I’d read in Approach to Zion. Afterwards, I introduced myself and told him that from what he’d said, I was pretty sure he too had read Nibley’s book. He kind of chuckled and said that book had cost him a lot of money!
