1 thought on ““Worlds Without Number”:[1] Hugh Nibley on Science and Religion

  1. In my view, the blessing that Methuselah and Enoch and Noah received that the entire Earth would be populated by their descendants is a massive, enormous blessing and particularly worthy of description in the scriptures. It’s essentially God saying that this Earth and the vast majority of its inhabitants on it will only be their descendants. As such the vast majority of people on the face of the Earth after a certain period of time, and on the whole in aggregate, will be underneath their patriarchal dominion. They are very few blessings greater than that. Particularly in the context of pre-modern times when one’s descendants could entirely cease to exist in a moment’s notice by war famine plague or natural disaster.

And contextually, the Lord is Methuselah and his descendants that they are highly valuable in the sight of God and will exclusively populate, govern, and control the world (including through the mortal ancestry of the Messiah) because of the type of person that Methuselah is, and the his descendants will become because of Methuselah’s genetics and behavior.
