  1. Another tree analogy: The redwoods are the largest trees in the world, yet their roots are quite superficial. Despite this they can withstand hundreds of years of costal storms. This is because their roots are all entwined with each other. We are stronger when supported by faithful family and friends.

  2. Great article! It hurt so much to see several close friends leave 2 years ago. But I found so much strength recently in those that have chosen to stay and even some that spoke in our stake conference about recently coming back. And I found similar strength on your article. Thanks so much for your words! Great analogy tied into solid gospel concepts.

  3. Thank you for being a palm tree with your central terminal node of faith in Jesus Christ. With all the excellent advice you have shared, there is one more. Palm trees can be knocked to the ground, entirely uprooted by the hurricane. When they are picked up and replanted they survive. Their short root system survives. Though their weakened strength means their trunks need support for awhile. That core central terminal bud has the strength to help those short roots to reestablish the palm. Thank goodness that there are mature palm trees, those we can depend on, who have been tried almost beyond endurance, but remain true and faithful. They lead this church. Often in the past two hundred years they stood virtually alone through the hurricanes of their day. One of the inner strengths of having the central terminal node is Christ himself who nurtures that node and the response of the palm tree that hears him even when the palm tree stands alone and all seems lost.

  4. I am a resident of Arizona and have 4 palm trees on my property; hence immediately there was a connection to your article. There are major wind storms in Arizona, (not as strong as hurricanes), and yet the aftermath of these storms will find many trees uprooted, or broken. The analogy to palm trees was well written and timely to issues of our days. There are so many storms of social and moral issues that are testing the fiber, the strength, and the steadfastness of good people. We all need to be lovingly reminded of our ‘terminal bud’ , the believe in Jesus Christ and our eternal goal to become like Him.

  5. Awesome article Amber! Your imagery provides a great backdrop for sustained faith. Thank you and wishing you a wonderful Thanksgiving.

  6. This is an amazing article. So well thought out and presented. I am going to send it to many friends. Thank you so much for taking the time to ponder these wonderful thoughts and to prepare this article.

  7. Thank you. We must never assume one walking away from the gospel is permanent. Gods arms extend wide. He’s never given up on me so ill never judge or give up on those who make those choices. That’s between God and them. But its frightening to see so many “stalwarts” I’ve known leave. We can’t get complacent. Our testimonies need daily nourishing like those trees.

  8. Outstanding article! So thoughtful and insightful. You have a unique skill for teaching important truths clearly and lovingly. Thank you, Amber!
