  1. One of the problems with Church publications and members is over reliance on what was said/written today versus last year or month. Perhaps that’s natural given our emphasis on continuing revelation. It does us a disservice.
I was given a box of old magazines in 1975 while on my mission that included the 1970 Improvement Era with the article of the seven accounts of the first vision. I cut it out and kept it in my file. I treated it from then on as common knowledge but rarely met anyone who knew about them. Over 40 years later a friend’s faith was further damaged because he learned this “new” information, possibly from the CES letter. (Me knowing it for 40 years didn’t help him at all.)
I wish there was a better way to make common knowledge actually common.

  2. I appreciate this article because it addresses the nature of the criticism made without repeating it. And, it addresses the subject guide completely, I believe.
Undoubtedly critics will continue to have additional ammunition to fire on the subject. Some, of us have thought deeply on the subject and are comfortable with answers we, ourselves have accumulated over the years. It is always helpful for us to examine our own beliefs and to share the reasons for them.

  3. Sarah Allen- you are awesome. These rebuttals are easy to read, full of supporting evidence, well written, and to the point. Thank you for doing so much research and making it available and understandable. Funny how lies spread like wildfire and truth trudges along. Much thanks to you!!
