1 thought on “Come, Follow Me Week 46 – Doctrine and Covenants 129-132

  1. Elder Cook’s commentary is insightful, but these interpretations of his comments about plural marriage “sacrifice” are wholly speculative and unwarranted.

I would not want to be the one who told Presidents Nelson and Oaks (and Lee and Hunter, and Joseph Smith thru Heber J. Grant) that there second (or plural) wives will not be sealed to them in the Spirit World and in the resurrection of the just. I think they would rebuke anyone declaring such false thinking. D&C 132 and OD1 taken together do not convey that doctrine and/or policy. Church practice constitutes the interpretation of the scripture.

My first wife died and my second wife is sealed to me in the same way and by the same authority as my second wife, for time and all eternity (if we live true and faithfully); same with our prophet, and those who would seek to negate such eternal sealings (for any reason) are in opposition to the sealing power Elijah and others brought to Joseph and Oliver (see D&C 110).

We should get our views about doctrine from the standard works and prophets and apostles, not feminism or other worldly philosophies. The two do not mix without misinterpretation and misunderstanding.
