  1. Over the years I’ve read the Old Testament at least three times, cover to cover, skipping only Song of Solomon (because Joseph Smith said it wasn’t inspired). Summed up, the single most important lesson that I learned was how much our Heavenly Father loves us, his children. Sure, you have to wade through wars, ancient Hebrew poetry, rules (so many rules), and thousands of years of cultural clutter, but at its core the Old Testament is the story of a loving father doing everything he can, short of force, to bring his children home. Not a father’s love but a Father’s love. A year or five of study was worth it for that simple lesson. It’ll be welcome again.
